A message from Jenny MacLean about the Amber Big Knit!

 

“The Shades of Amber Big Knit is a hand's on way of raising funds for our Favourite charity The Cyrenians. Festival-goers and knitters from afar contribute their time and energy to knit items that are auctioned, raffled or sold to help show our support in a creative and involving way. 

 

We have raised thousands of pounds for various charities (Shelter, Guide Dogs and Cyrenians) since our first Big Knit auction. Dougie MacLean's mother Dolly was the Big Knit's first co-ordinator during our Perthshire Amber Festival in 2007 and continues to help with the knitting and overseeing of the Big Knit Team that has gradually evolved. As well as the Big Knit Blanket which she supervised and finished off before it was auctioned each year, several of Dolly's special hand knit items have been included in every year's offerings!

Without a base for our Big Knit Lounge we are postponing our Big Knit to 2025 ... but knitters please keep knitting!! We will make 2025 the best contribution to the Cyrenians charity ever!! Send any knitting to the usual place (The Old Schoolhouse. Butterstone. Dunkeld. PH80HA. Scotland) ... we are accumulating for 2025v already!!

 

Meanwhile... as our world continues to be plagued by climate crises, wars and all kinds of homelessness and poverty,  we would love to again raise some funds for Cyrenians  … this year we would encourage anyone who has any spare cash (or just a kind heart!) to donate direct.  We appeal to members of our growing global audience who have enjoyed our Perthshire Amber Festival or Shades of Amber in the past or our streamed Live Concerts during 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024!  We are not charging for our weekend of concerts this year but we would love a small donation from everyone who can make it (and please mention Dougie MacLean's Shades of Amber if you make a donation)".   (Read all about the Cyrenians charity here)
