Ewan Robertson, BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2008 and also one fifth of Breabach, is one of Scotland’s finest new singers and guitarists.
Ewan was accepted into the National Centre of Excellence for Traditional Music in Scotland in 2000 where he studied fiddle and pipes. A shortage of accompanists at the school however led Ewan to experiment with the guitar. He used the vibrant session scene in Glasgow to develop his uniquely driving style of guitar accompaniment making him a popular addition in many band line-ups in Scotland.
He graduated from Glasgow University with first class honours in 2005 and then helped to form the hugely successful young Scottish folk band Breabach, who won a Danny Award at Celtic Connections in 2005, and have gone on to tour internationally and be nominated for the Scottish Folk Band of the Year Award at the 2007 Scots Trad Music Awards.
Ewan’s consummate stage craft and outstanding playing have singled him out as a very rare talent and resulted in him being awarded the BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year award in 2008.
Following a successful UK tour in 2009, Ewan’s debut album ‘Some Kind of Certainty’ (Greentrax) was released in Spring 2010.
When not on the road playing music, Ewan works as a part time fire fighter in Carrbridge in the Scottish Highlands where he also owns a croft. |

Rachel Sermanni is an 18 year old songstress from the tiniest of villages in the north of Scotland, with one hell of a voice and the songs to match. Her shy, gentile delivery is immediately endearing and has you mesmerized from the first sweet note. She's performed with the likes of Roddy Hart & Sandi Thom and is currently on tour with 'Stornoway'.
Her admirers are many and include Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons who has recently recorded with Rachel. One of her tracks features on the very first 'Communion Compilation' put together by Mumford & Sons.
Rachel was also recently invited to Jordan by the British Ambassador to perform in various locations as part of a “Wild Scotland Comes to Jordan” week. She was accompanied by a group of traditional musicians including: Chris Stout (fiddle), Shona Mooney (fiddle), Ross Ainsley (pipes) and Donald Hay (percussion). Traveling to Amman, the capital and largest city in Jordan, the group entertained both the ex-pats and locals. |
